Whooping cough forces cancellation of Portland State game

(Editor’s note: Release from Portland State Athletics.)

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland State’s football game against South Dakota State on Saturday has been canceled due to an illness within the PSU program.

Two days ago, a case of whooping cough was reported within the Viking team. Whooping cough is a highly contagious disease that affects the lungs, so many members of the team were exposed to the disease.

The two programs and their team physicians have had discussions regarding the situation. Portland State has decided that the game will not be played in the interest of the health of the student-athletes.

Please note that no Viking players are seriously ill at this time. Ticketing and refund information will be announced at a later date.
