TenZ Announces Retirement from Competitive VALORANT Scene

IT’S A SAD DAY for VALORANT fans as one of its biggest names recently announced his retirement from the competitive scene.

Tyson “TenZ” Ngo who was the star of the Sentinels show throughout their VCT campaign released a video in which he said: “Today I am announcing that I am retiring from competitive VALORANT. Obviously it wasn’t an easy decision for me to make, but it’s a decision I made at the beginning of this year, I told myself that this was my last year and I wanted to give it my all this year and see how it would go.

TenZ, renowned for his career as a content creator, was able to prove his doubters and detractors wrong when he propelled Sentinels to VCT glory when they won the Madrid Masters last March.

This moment ultimately cemented his legacy.

“Luckily we were able to win a trophy in Madrid, it was really great. It’s something I’m really happy we were able to do. I didn’t want to leave my career in a low point like 2023,” he said.

“I’m really happy that we were able to win in some way this year and for my last year. It was a really good memory. At the beginning, before I flew to the Champions Tour, I told all my teammates in person that this would be my last year of playing. They understood my decisions.”

He eventually hinted at some of the reasons for his departure, which centered around his decision to focus on content creation.

“With as much success as I have with my content creation, it was only natural for me to realize how much effort, work, and a part of my life being a competitive gamer takes.”

“So for 2024, I really put my heart into this year and tried to be the best I could be, even changing roles to a role I’ve never played in my life. I just wanted to be the best teammate I could be and the best player I could be.”

Ultimately, he remained grateful for his overall experience

“I want to give a huge thank you to all my teammates who shared my experience with Sentinels. It was incredible and there were a lot of highlights and a lot of lowlights. We were able to win international trophies at the end of my experience with Sentinels. I’m really happy to have left my mark on VALORANT history and to be recognized for it.”
