Reacher star Alan Ritchson’s new movie is “virtually a silent film”

Reacher’s Alan Ritchson didn’t have to worry about forgetting his lines whilst filming his upcoming movie Motor City.

Set in 1970s Detroit, the gritty movie follows newly-released John Miller (played by Ritchson), as he seeks revenge after being framed and sent to prison. However, according to Motor City star Ben Foster, viewers can expect to see an unusual narrative style.

In an interview with Collider, Foster revealed that the movie will feature a little less conversation and little more action. “The film itself, Motor City — we just wrapped — is virtually a silent film,” he shared. “There are five lines of dialogue.

“Jack White is helping with the music, so it’s like a rock disco revenge film. It’s like a graphic novel, so it’ll be interesting to see how that shakes out,” Foster added.

Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, Motor City will showcase a blend of various genres. Jon Berg, president of production at Stampede Ventures, described it as “somewhere between an opera, a music video and an action movie”.

Discussing the lack of dialogue, Berg explained that non-verbal communication plays a big role in the movie.

“Emotion conveys without language being essential; the actors’ performances are front and center,” he said. “Potsy has a killer vision for the film: dynamic camera, brilliant music, muscle cars and an immersive sound design surrounding badass action sequences.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Foster praised Ritchson for his ambitious mindset. “He’s very tall and very muscular and he’s very handsome,” Foster joked about his co-star. “He’s terrific as a mover. I think he wants to do some deeper work or rather different kinds of work than he’s been doing, and that’s a joy.”
