AT&T Reaches Tentative Agreements With Thousands of Striking Workers

AT&T announced it has reached two tentative agreements with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Southeast and West, the largest communications and media union in the United States. The company hopes to end its month-long strike as early as Monday.

In mid-August, the CWA told media that at least 17,000 technicians, customer service representatives and other employees in the Southeast were refusing to work because of “unfair labor practices” during negotiations for a new union contract.

The CWA District 3 (Southeast) strike affected Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The CWA District 9 (West) strike affected California, Hawaii and Nevada.

AT&T announced that the strikes would end Monday after reaching a new agreement.

“These agreements also strengthen our competitive position in the broadband industry, where we can grow and win against our largely non-union competitors,” an AT&T spokesperson said. “We will provide more details on the tentative agreements once the CWA shares them with its members, and we expect ratification votes to take place in the coming weeks.”
