Kansas City Chiefs' Joe Burrow marries comfort and fashion in retro Rick Owens DRKSHDW high-top sneakers for the Bengals-Chiefs game

Kansas City Chiefs’ Joe Burrow showed up in style before their game against the Cincinnati Bengals today in Kansas City.

The quarterback wore a pair of Rick Ownes DRKSHDW black and white denim high-tops with vintage suede trims. Retailing for $680, the designer sneakers featured a mix of contrasting black denim and white suede uppers along with white laces, ultra-comfortable padded collars, and chunky platform-style rubber soles secured by durable tread. Contrasting white stitching is seen throughout the silhouette.

While the style isn’t vintage, as the name suggests, it’s inspired by retro skateboarding styles a la Vans. If high-tops aren’t your thing, the designer brand also offers a low-top silhouette in the same colorway.

The high-top sneakers gave Burrow’s look a laid-back, street-style-inspired edge. Beyond the black and white colorway, the sneaker also comes in a similar light gray and cream hue. DRKSHDW is an offshoot of Rick Owens’ main brand that aims to be more accessible, affordable, and casual. Ownes launched the diffusion line in 2005, bridging the gap between high fashion and affordability.

Casual and cool, the athlete paired his designer shoes with a sleeveless black knit top paired with fitted pants that featured generous pockets. Burrow opted for plenty of accessories, wearing black sunglasses, a heavily monogrammed Louis Vuitton brown leather duffle bag and a colorful smiley face chain necklace.

Much like her sneakers, the soccer star’s look was largely inspired by street style while pieces like her pants were pulled from more formal styles. Accessories helped liven up the all-black look, creating dimension and a sense of whimsy.

For footwear, Burrow often wears tonal and colorful sneakers from Nike, particularly Air Jordan models, including the latter’s viral collaboration with Dior. On the red carpet, he’s also been seen in neutral-hued black, brown and gray loafers crafted from leather and suede.
