Lexus partners with Malbon to create the GX 550, the ultimate golf vehicle

Golf fans love big, luxurious, and upscale SUVs, so it makes sense that Lexus partnered with a well-known golf brand to create a special version of the 2024 GX 550. This unique version, dubbed the Malbon Edition, will be around for the remainder of this year’s golf season.

An intricate green theme sets the GX apart from anything else we’ve seen in the past. The wrap depicts a topographical map of a golf course’s fairways and includes bespoke Malbon Edition badges. Lexus also finished the roof in white and installed a set of white single-dish wheels.

We’re not convinced by this choice of wheels and think a set of flashy chrome parts or glossy black wheels would have been more appropriate. But I’m not a car designer and someone on the design team obviously thought they looked good.

A roof rack adds to the GX’s versatility appeal and supports a pair of large Pelican boxes, increasing its cargo-carrying capacity and serving as a great place to store longer clubs, including woods and drivers. A black Yakima side awning is also featured.

Changes have also been made to the interior. The second row is equipped with luxurious captain’s chairs and the third row has been replaced with a sliding storage box. This box is large enough to hold four golf bags, golf balls, tees, shoes and towels. Lexus and Malbon have also made unique steel skid plates for the special GX 550.

“Through our collaboration with Malbon, we’ve designed a GX that will deliver an unforgettable golf outing,” said Nicole Peterson, Lexus marketing director. “From the custom fairway surfacing to the sliding storage box that holds golf bags and clubs, to the special Malbon touches throughout the vehicle, this GX is luxury and adventure redefined for golf enthusiasts.”

This very special Lexus will make appearances at the Oregon Buckets Club Golf Tournament, Columbia Edgewater, IMSA Petit Le Mans, Road Atlanta, Buckets Club Tournament, Grand Golf Club, Lexus Maldon Invitational and Miami Shores Country Club.
