Burns woman arrested on drug charges after being caught speeding

A 32-year-old Burns woman faces felony drug charges following a traffic stop in south Cheyenne.

According to a booking sheet, Alissa Jean Garcia was stopped at mile marker 3 on Wyoming 212 (College Drive) on Friday, September 13 after a Wyoming Highway Patrol sergeant clocked her going 38 mph in a posted 30 mph zone.

The sergeant said that when he informed Garcia and her two passengers, Dawn Nu’u and Austin Sanders, of why he had stopped them, Garcia told him she thought the speed limit was 40 mph.

Traffic stop leads to drug charges

The sergeant stated that there were open containers of alcohol in the center console, so he asked all three occupants to exit the van so he could conduct a probable cause search for additional open containers.

While searching the van, the sergeant allegedly found what he believed to be drug preparation kits and requested the assistance of a dog.

Cheyenne Police Officer Sweet and his K-9 partner Dutch arrived on scene and Dutch sounded the alarm on the van.

Dog’s Drug Inhalation Leads to Methamphetamine

A probable cause search was conducted and inside a pink case that was apparently behind Garcia were a used syringe, a bag of methamphetamine with red dice on the bag, an eyelash cleaning brush used to clean false eyelashes, a phone, a ChapStick and a pink Sharpie.

The sergeant said Garcia was the only person inside the van with false eyelashes.

After handcuffing Garcia, the sergeant said he searched the cage she was sitting in and found a bag of marijuana hidden under the seat, which Garcia later admitted was hers.

The sergeant then allegedly searched Garcia but found nothing, and told her that if she took anything to jail she would be charged with a felony, to which she responded that she had nothing else.

Nu’u and Sanders were later released from the scene and Garcia was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center.

No more methamphetamine

The sergeant said when he removed Garcia from the cage and looked in the floor, he found two bags of methamphetamine she had hidden during transport.

He said the bags contained red dice, just like the bag found in the pink suitcase.

While in the booking area, Garcia allegedly attempted to hide two additional bags of methamphetamine containing red dice under the bench she was sitting on.

After locating the two bags of methamphetamine, the sergeant said Garcia, who had been asked by deputies to go to the bathroom and change, was kicked out of the bathroom.

He said there was a clear bag wedged under the rim of the toilet she was using and toilet paper containing methamphetamine in the toilet.

Garcia charged with 2 felonies and 2 misdemeanors

Garcia was later charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor obstruction of a peace officer – without injury, and felony transportation of a controlled substance into jail.

Garcia made his initial appearance in Laramie County Court on Monday, September 16, where his bail was set at $5,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was set for Friday, September 20 at 11 a.m.

Remember that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Meet the Cheyenne Police Department’s Four-Legged Heroes

They may not be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but let’s face it: police dogs play a vital role in fighting crime.

In many situations, they are the first to risk their lives to protect their human partners, proving that not all heroes wear capes, some wear fur coats.
