Brother charged with murder in sister’s death in Millbrook – NBC New York

A New York man has been charged with murder three years after his teenage sister was suffocated to death in the family’s New York home, prosecutors said.

The fatal incident occurred Sept. 4, 2021, in the Dutchess County town of Millbrook, county prosecutor Anthony Parisi said. Inside a home on Harts Village Road, 17-year-old Maureen Nelson-Lanzi was found suffocated to death.

After an investigation that lasted more than three years, the victim’s brother was charged in the killing, Parisi said. Mark Dedaj was charged with second-degree murder for the intentional killing of the teenager.

“This case is a tragic and heartbreaking example of domestic violence. As we pursue this crime, our priority is to provide justice to the victim and support her surviving loved ones. The gravity of this situation is immense and we are determined to ensure that the defendant is held accountable for this profound loss,” Parisi said.

Dedaj was ordered held without bail and his next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 22. Attorney information for Dedaj, 32, was not immediately available.
