Tunisian court sentences presidential candidate Zammel to 20 months in prison

Tunis: A Tunisian court on Wednesday sentenced presidential candidate Ayachi Zammel to one year and eight months in prison for falsifying popular support ballots, Zammel’s lawyer said. Reutersthree weeks before the presidential vote.

“The verdict is politically motivated, unfair and aims to undermine his chances in the presidential race,” said Abdessattar Massoudi, Zammel’s lawyer.

Zammel was arrested two weeks ago.
