A 13-year-old girl was walking home from her Brockton middle school Tuesday afternoon when a man allegedly sexually assaulted her, Brockton police said.

The girl, who is a student at West Middle School, was walking on West Elm Street when a man approached her in the driveway of a home, Brockton police said.

The student briefly struggled with the man but managed to escape, Brockton police said. She fled to her home.

Brockton police said they were notified of the incident Wednesday and began searching for the man. The suspect had not been identified as of Wednesday evening.

Brockton Interim Schools Superintendent Priya Tahiliani said the school community has been notified and asked students “to remain vigilant and report anything concerning to a trusted adult.”

“We are working closely with the Brockton Police Department to support the student and family affected by this deeply concerning incident and will work with police to help identify a suspect,” she said in a statement.

The man is described as a black male, in his 20s, who is missing two front teeth. He was wearing a black shirt with multi-colored lettering and gray pants and was riding a blue bicycle with white lettering, Brockton police said.
