James Cameron finds Terminator partly “embarrassing”

Marking the 40th anniversary of his directorial debut, the three-time Oscar winner called parts of the 1984 film “rather embarrassing,” admitting the “production value” had not aged well.

“I don’t think it’s a Holy Grail, that’s for sure,” he said. Empire“I look at it now and there are parts that are quite embarrassing, and parts that make me say, ‘Yeah, we did pretty well with the resources we had.'”

Cameron added: “Just production value, you know? I’m not embarrassed by dialogue, but I’m less embarrassed than a lot of people, apparently, by the dialogue that I write,” Cameron added. “You know what? Show me your top three grossing movies out of the four, and then we’ll talk about the effectiveness of the dialogue.”

The Terminator grossed over $78 million worldwide upon its release in 1984, launching the careers of Cameron and star Arnold Schwarzenegger.
