Sri Lanka on Friday recalled left-handed spinner Inoka Ranaweera to their 15-member squad that will be led by inspirational captain Chamari Athapaththu for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Ranaweera, with over 12 years of international experience, last played for Sri Lanka in the 2024 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. The seasoned spinner is expected to thrive in the spin-friendly conditions in the UAE, adding depth to Sri Lanka’s bowling attack.

Sri Lanka have enjoyed a prolific run in the last 18 months, securing series victories over England and South Africa for the first time in their history in any format, barring their historic Asia Cup win.

They also achieved an unbeaten streak in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 qualifiers.

Sri Lanka open their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan in Sharjah on October 3.
