While actor Rob Schneider’s new book is filled with humor and high-octane stories about his time on “Saturday Night Live” and working on Adam Sandler movies, it also contains a serious message for all Americans who care about the future of their country.

Titled after the comedy film’s most famous catchphrase, his book “You Can Do It!” is a call for Americans to vigorously defend their First Amendment rights, as he believes they are under attack by left-wing Marxist authoritarians using the levers of the media, Big Tech, and the government’s response to COVID-19 to crush diversity of thought in this country.

“This is a time to stand up. This is a time to be courageous. This government and our freedoms demand something: eternal vigilance. Or we will lose it,” Schneider told Fox News Digital.

Released later this month, “You Can Do It!” draws on Schneider’s experience as a groundbreaking comedian and actor to demonstrate that Americans shouldn’t be afraid to speak their minds, especially when confronted by powerful woke entities who see free speech as a threat to their power and control.

“Unfortunately, my book is timely, because it is unfortunate that we have to talk about and reinforce what this nation is about – one of its core beliefs – which is that free speech is the First Amendment, not the Third, not the Fourth, not even the Second.”

Drawing on the country’s historical roots, the actor told Fox News: “Even before guns were ever there, our government and our founding fathers understood that the real weapon to prevent tyranny and to prevent this nation from turning to tyranny — even more important than guns — was unfettered freedom of speech.”

In addition to revealing digressions on his relationships with legendary comedians like David Spade and Chris Farley, some of the most compelling parts of Schneider’s book are his brief profiles of famous 20th-century American comedians, some of whom risked their careers, and at times their lives, to make jokes that were offensive and unpopular with the dominant culture of the time.

They reinforce one of the book’s central arguments: that comedians have always been and remain at the forefront of defending Americans’ First Amendment rights, always pushing the boundaries of what can be said or thought in the public square. He writes that this instinct is especially important today, when the media and other major corporations have been “captured” by liberal beliefs that hate dissent.

He spoke to Fox News about this ongoing threat to free speech, saying it is alive and well in the Democratic Party and in Vice President Kamala Harris’ agenda for the country.

“And that’s what the Marxists in our government are attacking, and I mean Marxist in the traditional sense. We’re dealing with Kamala Harris, a Marxist. The Democrats don’t respect free speech… Our system is corrupt, and if you want it to continue to be more corrupt, then vote for Kamala,” he said.

“At what point do we take responsibility and say ‘enough is enough’? Or at least we just give in,” he said, adding that his book depicts him saying “enough is enough.”

“I’m one of those people. I wrote a book. I do what I can every day. I tell people if they want to listen to it, they can listen to it,” he said.

Schneider, whose book also describes his upbringing in America by a mother who fled the Philippines for a better life, urged Americans never to take for granted the rare privilege of living in a free country.

“As I say in my book, 108 billion people have lived according to the principles of modern science. Very few of them have had the great luxury of living in a free society. Maybe this is just an exception. Maybe this is just an accident in human history, and it won’t last.”

He told Fox News he was “hopeful” it was not an isolated incident, but said: “People need to stand up now.”
