Moments before army officer and his fiancée were attacked in Odisha

A disturbing incident has come to light in Odisha, where an army officer and his fiancée were sexually harassed at a police station in Bhubaneswar. The incident took place when they were on their way to the police station to lodge a complaint about an assault they had suffered at the hands of several men, a video of which has now surfaced on social media.

In the video, the woman and the police officer can be seen surrounded by men who are arguing and pushing them while insulting them. ABP LIVE has not been able to independently verify the authenticity of the video.

In the video, the woman can be seen talking to a man and telling him that some of the people around her had tried to misbehave with her. “Sir, I am not talking to you, I am talking to the people who are trying to misbehave with me. They are… This is my car, showing my legs or my hair, it is my right,” the woman said in Hindi.

A man interrupts him, saying, “Don’t show us that then.” The group of men and the woman get into a heated argument. As the argument escalates, the army officer is seen trying to calm the situation by taking her away, but the men follow him, shouting, “We are not in Delhi.”

The men accuse the woman of playing the “victim card” and as the army officer leads the woman to their car, a man slams the front door on her. The woman and the officer are then separated and both are abused. Towards the end of the video, the woman is heard saying she would go to the police.

Björk protest group holds demonstration in Bhubaneshwar

Biju Janata Dal workers staged protests in Bhubaneswar on Saturday against the incident. The workers staged a demonstration in front of Raj Bhawan in the state capital.

“Odisha is in the news for wrong reasons. The BJP government made Odisha famous all over the world by physically and mentally abusing a woman and an army man in Bharatpur police station and after that the government is silent. No action has been taken,” BJP leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar said.

Rahul Gandhi criticises BJP government

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state, saying crimes against women under the BJP government have become completely “unchecked and unbridled”.

“When injustice thrives and finds refuge within the very system of government, then where should the ordinary citizen turn for help?” he asked.

The Congress leader demanded strict legal punishment for the culprits “to set an example of justice and security to the people of India, especially women”.
