Maharashtra Elections: Ambedkar-led VBA announces first list of 11 candidates, fields transgender candidate

The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) on Saturday announced its first list of 11 candidates, including a transgender, for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Announcing the candidates at a press conference in Mumbai, VBA chief Prakash Ambedkar said Shamibha Patil, a transgender from the Leva Patil community, would contest from the Raver assembly seat in north Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district.

The party also fielded Savita Mundhe from Sindkhed Raja district. She hails from the Vanjari community.

Elections to the 288-member assembly are expected to take place in mid-November.
