Governor Hochul Announces 0 Million Investment in Upstate New York Workforce Development Centers

ALBANY (WBNG) — Governor Kathy Hocul announced the launch of the One Network for Regional Advanced Manufacturing Partnerships, or ON-RAMP, program on September 20.

The program represents a $200 million investment to create a network of four new workforce development centers in upstate New York.

These centers will bring together industry, academia, social services and community organizations to provide high-quality skills training for careers in high-growth advanced manufacturing industries such as semiconductor production.

The program will be managed and developed by Empire State Development.

Three of these centers will be located in locations selected through a competition. The flagship center will be in Syracuse.

“New York’s economic competitiveness is a result of our extraordinary workforce, who strive every day to innovate, create and push the boundaries of what is possible,” Governor Hocul said in a press release.

ON-RAMP centers are expected to be fully sustainable entities that will not require support from Empire State Development after five years of center implementation funding.
