Silent crime: West Bromwich man describes misery caused by street racers near his home

That’s the grim description of nightlife given by West Bromwich resident Jake Russell as he called for more to be done to curb illegal street racing in the town.

Jake lives in a high-rise apartment building in the Kendrick Park neighborhood, next to the Kendrick Way Expressway. Over the years, the main road has become a “car cruising” hotspot for illegal street racers and spectators.

Jake was happy when the noises stopped following the crackdown on illegal street racing under the Black Country Street Racing Injunction, but to his dismay the noises returned.

Of the illegal runners, Jake, 52, who has lived at the address for more than 10 years, said: “I actually think it’s worse now than it was before.

“The injunction helped a little bit. It calmed down for about a month, but since then it’s started up again. When I sit here, you can hear the cars speeding down the road, and these are high-performance engines, they’re extremely loud.
