You’ll have to wait a whole year if you want to play the Silent Hill 2 remake on a console other than a PS5

If you’re a Silent Hill 2 fan but have switched to Xbox since the PS2 days, you’re going to have to wait a full year for it to release on its PS5 rival.

Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake is coming soon, but just like the original game, it will be exclusive to the PS5 console (PC players will be able to play it in real-time). The Silent Hill series obviously feels more like it belongs on the PlayStation, given that the first game launched on the PS1, though in the years since, it has been released on several Xbox consoles, including Silent Hill 2, which later came to the original Xbox with the subtitle Inner Fears.

But like many third-party PlayStation exclusives these days, Sony only appears to be buying the exclusivity for about a year, as in a recent trailer for the game, it was noted that the Silent Hill 2 remake is “not available on other formats until” October 8, 2025.

As a reminder, October 8, 2024 is the release date for the Silent Hill 2 remake, so the exclusivity lasts exactly one year. And given that the remake is coming to PC at launch, those “other formats” obviously mean Xbox. This also doesn’t technically confirm that the game will be coming to Xbox exactly one year after its PlayStation release, it seems like these announcements usually come a little after the exclusivity deal expires, but given that one of Bloober Team’s most recent games, The Medium, was an Xbox Series X/S exclusive (if only for a few months), it’s probably a safe bet that it will eventually arrive.

Our own Kelsey got to test out the remake last month and, to her surprise, came away feeling like it was actually pretty darn good.
