British rock band Coldplay on Sunday (September 22, 2024) added a third show to the Mumbai leg of their ‘Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025’, citing “phenomenal demand”, hours after fans expressed disappointment over long virtual queues on online ticketing platform BookMyShow.

Tickets for the new show, which will be held on January 21 at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai, will go live at 2 pm on BookMyShow.

“Due to overwhelming demand, a third Mumbai date has been added at the DY Patil Stadium for January 21, 2025. Tickets go on sale at 2pm IST today,” Coldplay said in an X-rated post, alongside the booking link.

According to reports, the server of the BookMyShow website and app went down on Sunday while it was opening sales for the British band’s concerts scheduled for next year.

Soon, the hashtags “Coldplay,” “BookMyShow,” and “Crashed” started trending on X.

Coldplay had already announced two concerts on January 18 and 19, 2025, at the DY Patil Sports Stadium.

Several fans have shared screenshots of their frozen computer and smartphone screens as the app experiences high traffic.

According to BookMyShow, ticket sales for the two shows on January 18 and 19, 2025, at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai were scheduled to open at 12 noon. Many people reported that tickets were still not available for booking well after 12:15 pm.

Ticket prices range from ₹2,500 to ₹12,500, with ₹35,000 for the lounge area, according to the platform’s website.

Within an hour, the server was back up and running, and BookMyShow shared a message reporting “high traffic” on every account trying to book a ticket, with the waiting list reaching 842,745 (data on BookMyShow website as of 1:39 pm).

“Due to heavy traffic, the queue is moving slower than expected. Thank you for your patience!” reads a sign on the platform.

A few helpful fans suggested others wait to refresh the page.

“If you are in the queue for Coldplay tickets and it is moving slowly, refresh your page. It will be faster #Coldplay #BookMyShow (sic),” said one X user.

Another claimed that other platforms were selling Coldplay tickets at inflated prices.

“Dear @coldplay, fans in India are struggling to get tickets on @Bookmyshow_live with waiting lists of over 300,000 but platforms like Viagogo (search for Coldplay India tickets on Google, first sponsored link will be VIAGOGO) are selling them at inflated prices. #coldplayindia #BookMyShow (sic),” said one user.

“Indians every time they try to book tickets for Coldplay and any other major event on bookmyshow! Crash again! #bookmyshow #Coldplay (sic),” wrote another.

“Bookmyshow server says: Sir mai kaam hi nahi karta kuch! #BookMyShow #Coldplay (sic),” joked one user on X.

The Mumbai concert will mark Coldplay’s first visit to India in eight years.

The Grammy-winning group had previously performed in Mumbai as part of the Global Citizen Festival in 2016.

“Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025” will kick off on October 30 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia and conclude on August 31, 2025 with a show at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.
