Despite Tua Tagovailoa’s recent upgrade, Dolphins must remain patient with star QB

The Miami Dolphins entered the season with pretty high expectations. With Tyreek Hill, De’Von Achane, Jaylen Waddle, and Tua Tagovailoa along with one of the best offensive facilitators in football, it was hard to imagine many defenses could match them over an entire game.

But it took a few weeks for the Dolphins’ season to be completely upended. Tagovailoa suffered a very scary concussion, leaving him unconscious on the ground at the end of a play. After that play, Tua was placed on injured reserve and many around the league encouraged him to consider retirement given his history of head injuries.

So far, it’s clear that Tua has no intention of retiring. But that choice may well be completely out of his hands, given what doctors eventually say about the situation.

Days after the initial injury, reports surfaced that Tua needed to meet with independent neurologists who could provide him with a better report and recovery timeline for this season. It’s also possible that those specialists could sideline him for the year or push him into retirement.

But there has been no update on this after a week of waiting.

NFL insider Adam Schefter recently provided an update on Tua, providing some insight into why there hasn’t been any further updates on his recent head injury.

“Tua was supposed to meet with neurologists last week and the schedules got mixed up. He’s feeling good right now and he’ll meet with them this week,” Schefter said on a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show.

Schefter confirms that there was a mix-up in the schedules, which is why we have not received an update from the experts on the situation. This update should come later this week after Tua meets with the specialists.

There are a ton of different outcomes that could come from this. Tua could be cleared to play this year with doctors not finding anything too abnormal.

Regardless, we should have an update on his concussion recovery time later this week. The Dolphins need to be patient with Tua, as this is his third recorded concussion in a very short period of time. It doesn’t help that Skylar Thompson is dealing with his own injury.

Miami signed Tyler Huntley last week, who could step in if needed.
