Five arrested for vandalising autorickshaws following road rage incident in Mumbai; three arrested

Mumbai: Three people have been arrested for allegedly vandalising eight autorickshaws following a road rage incident in Bandra, police said on Tuesday.

Police were searching for two more accused in connection with the incident that took place in Kherwadi locality on Monday night, an official said.

Police said two men got into a violent argument after their cars brushed against each other on a busy road in the locality, leading to a fight.

One of the men called his local friend while the other man left the spot. After some time, a group of men armed with iron rods reached the spot and allegedly damaged some parked rickshaws, he said.

A rickshaw driver informed the police checkpoint.

Initial reports indicate that the men, brandishing iron rods, were shouting slogans and verbally abusing residents, the official said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 8 Dixit Gedam said three of the five accused have been remanded in custody.

The official said the accused have been charged under sections 191 (1) (rioting), 324 (mischief) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
