San Rafael stabbing suspect to undergo mental health evaluation

A Marin judge on Tuesday ordered an evaluation of a San Rafael stabbing suspect to see if he is mentally fit to stand trial.

Walenton Deleon-Diaz, 26, of San Rafael, allegedly assaulted the victim during a domestic dispute at a Fairfax Street apartment on June 25. Deleon-Diaz has pleaded not guilty to charges that include attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

His attorney, Tom Brown, declined to comment on Tuesday’s hearing before Judge Kelly Simmons. The next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 22.
