Daniel Farke Press Conference: Leeds United v Coventry City

Leeds United have one more kick-off at 3:00 p.m. BST on Saturday when they take on Coventry City at Elland Road.

The Sky Blues have had a mixed start, with just one league win so far, while United boss Daniel Farke looks to back up last week’s victory at Cardiff City with victory over a side who have took four points at Leeds last season.

Here are the main points of his press conference:

  • Leeds United will be without injured wingers Manor Solomon (back) and Dan James as well as defender Max Wober (knee). A decision will be made in the coming days whether Wober will need knee surgery.

  • Meanwhile, central defender Pascal Struijk (adductor) must train tomorrow to prove he has recovered or he will miss the match. Forward Patrick Bamford and left-back Junior Firpo are expected to recover from knocks.

  • On how to use Mateo Joseph in a way that doesn’t damage his confidence: “Sometimes, because of tactics, you need a more physical striker, or more pace, or technique – that depends on the opponent. There is pressure to deliver in every position.”

  • Farke is happy with Joseph’s play: “I’m happy with his performance. His workload is heavy and he made an assist for Largie (Ramazani). It’s good for confidence and mood if you score a few goals, but he was impressive in pre-season. He scored against Hull and he made three assists. It’s not like my striker needs to win the Golden Boot.

  • On whether his counterpart Mark Robins is an example of why a club should stick to one manager: “Not always. If you have the right manager, maybe. I’m convinced of the quality from Mark I have always considered him to be one of the best managers in this division. Experienced and always delivering every season.

  • Farke is also not fooled by their mixed start to the season: “They either finish in the top six or near the top six, then lose their best players every year. They may start slowly, but eventually the quality shines through .I expect them to do so will be much higher than here.
