Third suspect in Rena Street murder arrested

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – A third suspect wanted in a fatal robbery this month on Rena Street turned himself in Friday.

Jail reports from the Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD) show that Maalik Marquese Brignac, 17, was arrested around 10 p.m. Friday evening and charged with first-degree murder. His bail was set at $900,000.

The three suspects attempted to rob Jeremy Jamal Ware, 29, at his home on Rena Street on Friday, September 13, LCPD Deputy Chief Kevin Kirkum said.

The suspects shot Ware and he was taken to the hospital where he later died, Kirkum said.

The LCPD SWAT team arrested Water Curtis Jr., 17, at his home near the scene of the shooting on Sept. 18, Kirkum said. A 16-year-old suspect was arrested on September 24.

Curtis faces a charge of robbery with a firearm. He is being held on $100,000 bail.

The 16-year-old faces a charge of first-degree murder.
