Legendary rock singer says doctors found mass on daughter’s brain, asks for prayers

Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman Johnny Van Zant took to social media ahead of the weekend with some scary health announcements and a call for prayers from fans.

Van Zant posted a video to his Facebook account after the band announced it was canceling a handful of shows due to a health issue involving his daughter.

“First of all, I want to thank you all for praying for my family,” Van Zant said in the video. “I haven’t announced my daughter’s name because she’s very private, but I just wanted to put it out there. So, I just ask you to say a prayer for my daughter.

Van Zant then revealed that it was actually his youngest daughter, Taylor.

“A few days ago, Taylor started feeling numb on her right side,” he said. “She went to the emergency room, they did a CT scan and they found a… the only way to tell it was a mass on her brain, and part of it was bleeding. This caused the numbing part.

“In saying that, we met with her with a large neurology team and a group of doctors, and they don’t think it’s (cancer),” he added. “So that’s a good thing, but they’re still doing a lot of testing. We’re not out of the woods yet, but we’re in a much better position than we initially thought.

Van Zant, however, revealed that his daughter isn’t the only person he’s asking for prayers for.

“And so please continue to say your prayers for Taylor,” he said. “It means everything to me and my family. I have another one, when it rains it rains. My bus driver that was with me, well, for the last few months, our buses were going to play in Anchorage, and our buses went to Utah.

Van Zant said his driver was on a scooter when he wrecked.

“He wrecked the scooter and hit his head, and he’s in intensive care,” he said. “Brad Gibson, I want to get Brad back together, with Taylor. He has a lovely family, a young daughter, a wonderful family and he has been a wonderful driver for us. A good guy, and a truly freak accident, if you can say prayers, prayers, prayers for him.

“You know, the Devil is trying to get at you every time you start spreading his word, but we won’t let him,” he added. “We will fight him to the end. All he wants to do is cause trouble and hurt us. So think about it, I’m not going to let that happen.

“I will fight to the end with Jesus Christ.”
