Mets Slugger sends message to MLB ahead of vital doubleheader

The New York Mets’ 5-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday is the most important victory they have achieved in their entire 2024 season.

That being said, the Mets are far from out of the woods. They will now play a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves (which makes up for the two postponed games New York and Atlanta were supposed to play earlier this week) on Monday.

The Mets advance to the MLB playoffs if they win either of these two games. Lose both and their season ends tomorrow.

One would imagine the Mets’ only focus would be on tomorrow. Still, designated hitter JD Martinez expressed frustration about what awaits New York on Tuesday if they want to win tomorrow.

The Wild Card round of the MLB playoffs is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. Therefore, if the Mets are successful, they will have a quick turnaround and fly to San Diego or Milwaukee once Monday’s two games are completed. Martinez is not happy about this.

“It’s tough,” Martinez said of tomorrow’s doubleheader, according to SNY. “I wish MLB would, you know, push back the playoffs a little bit. You know, I think it’s an unfair advantage… for the teams that we’re going to play. Just because we know what’s in game, and you’re going to scratch to win these matches. That’s the only way to get in.

“And then you have to turn around and get on a plane and you’re already blown up the day before. So it’s going to be a tough task. We just have to suck it up and find a way to get through it,” he said. he continued.

While all the Mets would surely prefer not to have a quick turnaround, they would take it over the alternative: their season ending tomorrow.
