Anvar fires fresh salvo at Kerala CM, CPI(M); calls for High Court-monitored investigation into his accusations

Malappuram: Dissident LDF MP PV Anvar launched a fresh attack on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the ruling CPI(M), while demanding a High Court-monitored probe into his allegations on various issues , including those against a senior state police official.

At an “explanatory meeting” in Nilambur on Sunday, Anvar trained his guns on Vijayan, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) M. Ajithkumar and a district secretary of the CPI(M), alleging that he had been expelled from the left-wing Democratic Party. Front (LDF) for demanding action against Ajithkumar.

Anvar had earlier challenged Vijayan to order a fresh probe into around 180 cases of gold smuggling, alleging that the police were not following procedure while seizing the precious metal illegally imported from abroad.

The Nilambur MP called the meeting after the CPI(M) recently said it had severed ties with him and claimed that he had become a “political axis of the right”.

Anvar said he was being called communal for asking the party to introspect its failures.

“These days, when someone raises an issue, instead of broaching the subject, their religion is discussed. Baseless allegations are being made to target me as a communalist,” Anvar said.

He also said a decision on his future – whether to join a political party or start a new one – would be made after polling the population.

Anvar claimed he was expelled from the LDF for asking the CPI(M) to take action against Ajithkumar, against whom he had raised several allegations.

Highlighting former health minister KK Shailja’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections from Vatakara seat, the lawmaker claimed that the CPI(M) had failed to overcome its shortcomings in the parliamentary elections.

He also criticized the LDF government for its stance on the 2018 Sabarimala case, which stemmed from a Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all ages to enter the shrine.

Referring to the Kerala government’s decision to implement the order, Anvar said he had asked the Left party not to follow through on the move.

“If they don’t want this, then why should we intervene? The party had said it was for Hindu sisters. Then (it) brought in someone from Andhra (Pradesh) with the help of the police. Has the party studied the matter? There is no discussion in the party. Everyone trembles on hearing the name of Pinarayi Vijayan. Anvar said.

Anvar also alleged that Vijayan was threatening him with a letter from the governor in connection with a phone tapping case.

A case was registered on Sunday against Anvar for allegedly illegally tapping phone calls of senior state police officials.

He said even the CPI, an ally of the CPI(M), was demanding Ajithkumar’s removal.

“I demand the same. But the Kerala Chief Minister portrayed me as a supporter of smuggling gangs in front of the 3.5 million people of Kerala. He threatened me with a letter given by the Governor on wiretapping (problem). What do they think? “That I will hide? The ICC can make demands but I cannot,” Anvar said.

The MP also attacked Ajithkumar and claimed that the evidence provided by him was enough to oust the police officer.

“Can this notorious criminal be suspended? His phones, keys and other items should be seized. He should be stripped of his uniform and paraded through the streets,” Anvar said.

He also called for an independent investigation and said the judiciary was the only hope.

Anvar claimed that all the evidence presented to the government and the CPI(M) on various issues was being destroyed. “The investigation should be conducted by officers appointed by the High Court, who should also monitor the cases. I will present the evidence with me in the court. Let the court decide.” The dissident MLA also accused CPI(M) district secretary EN Mohandas – who allegedly called him a “clown” during a press conference – of having “close links” with the accused policemen.

The lawmaker further alleged that there was an “unnatural nexus” between the leaders of the political parties in the state.

Reiterating his allegations regarding the seizure of smuggled gold, Anvar claimed that 25 per cent of Kerala’s police force had been “criminalized”.

He also claimed that he had lost money and business due to his association with the CPI(M).

“I stood up to all the unnecessary allegations made against the left-wing government over the last eight years as an MP. I lost everything, my businesses were targeted. I made many enemies for this gone,” he said.

He expressed displeasure over the lack of support from the CPI(M) and the chief minister, whom he considers a “father figure”.

Anvar leveled several allegations against Ajithkumar and Vijayan’s political secretary P Sasi.

Earlier this week, CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan said his party had severed all ties with Anvar. Vijayan had also rejected Anvar’s allegations.

However, investigations are underway into certain allegations raised by Anvar.

During the speech, Anvar claimed that the ‘Sangh Parivar’ aims to come to power in Kerala by 2036.

“They (the Sangh Parivar) are aiming for 25 seats in 2026 (parliamentary elections), they will get at least 20. In 2036, they will come to power. They are not in a hurry. They are moving slowly and steadily, we have to understand that,” Anvar said.

He said communal riots were not good for society. “If we go through the states of northern India, which have been marked by communal violence, we will understand the seriousness of this problem, how serious it is.” Regarding his future plans, Anvar said he would develop a mobile application within 15 to 30 days to gather public opinion.

“I will seek the opinion of the people and take a decision whether to join the Congress, Muslim League or the BJP or stand with the people and fight them all. I will set up a center to conduct a survey among the people . Then we will decide what to do,” he said.
