It’s time for the Cleveland Browns to move on from this Star Wide Receiver

The Cleveland Browns have underperformed through the first four games of the 2024 season and hopes of contending for a playoff spot are dwindling. Only 13 percent of teams that start 1-3 turn things around and make the playoffs.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson has been heavily criticized for his play so far this year, but he’s only been part of the problem on offense. Cleveland’s offensive line continues to struggle, alongside former Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Cooper played a key role in the offensive efforts last year, as the once-highly touted pass catcher finished with 1,250 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2023. This season, however, was a different story. The 30-year-old has 16 catches for 148 receiving yards and leads the league in dropped passes.

There appears to be a growing unease with Cooper and the Browns. It was reported that he was not in the locker room once reporters entered following the team’s recent loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

After two consecutive losses, Cleveland will face a very tight schedule for the remainder of the season.

If playoff hopes are fading, general manager Andrew Berry must act now to position the organization for a brighter future. Moving Cooper could allow the Browns to receive compensation for the veteran wide receiver. Berry has shown how much he values mid-to-late draft picks in the past, which could be used to fix other parts of the offense.

Acquiring Jerry Jeudy this past offseason gives Berry the opportunity to get rid of a player like Cooper. Jeudy currently leads the team in receiving yards through four games this year with 197. The plan always seemed like this would be Cooper’s last year in Cleveland, since Berry declined to extend him during the offseason.

The Kansas City Chiefs could draw some interest depending on the severity of star Rashee Rice’s injury. The former Super Bowl champions are undefeated and could use help on the perimeter if Rice misses too much time.
