‘I hope these guys get caught’ Springs man asks community for help after trailer full of ,000 tools stolen

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -A Colorado Springs man is asking for your help after his work trailer containing $40,000 worth of tools was stolen from his home in broad daylight. It happened Thursday, September 26 around 6:15 p.m. near Babcock Road and Palmer Park Boulevard. Colorado Springs police tell us crimes like this are on the rise this fall.

“They come, they take my trailer, then they turn right on Babcock and go all the way down Babcock, then they play with the trailer and all that. It blows my mind that someone can come up and take a trailer,” , said Mitchell Gifford, the man whose trailer was stolen.

Mitchell Gifford has run his own business specializing in concrete and epoxy flooring for over five years, building a collection of valuable tools. These tools are now gone.

“I was like, ‘Oh, my God.’ I know this happens to people all the time and that’s what sucks, it’s because I’ve been traveling the last few days and all I’ve heard is people all over the sources and south to north who were being robbed. Stolen vehicles, trailers,” Gifford said.

Colorado Springs police tell 11 News that, unfortunately, Gifford was not alone. Property thefts, such as car trailer theft, increased 7% this fall.

Gifford filed a police report but told 11 News he was watching his trailer and hoped others in the community would do the same.

“I’m just trying to find my gear. All my stuff in there and my trailer. I hope these guys get caught and pay the price. It’s certainly what they deserve,” Gifford said.

If you see the suspicious trailer or vehicles, you can call police on their non-emergency line (719) 444-7000.
