PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Local Government Commission (LGC) is expected to discuss a $49 million Pender County bond proposal and other items at its meeting on Tuesday, October 1 .

According to the LGC, Pender County wants to take out $49 million in limited obligation bonds to pay for a new 85,000 square foot building.

The building would house the county Department of Health and Human Services.

In Columbus County, Lake Waccamaw is attempting to use $809,790 in funding to upgrade the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP).

The project would involve raising the electrical control panels of five elevated pump stations above flood level and adding backup power generation.

“The second part concerns the repair of cracks in the concrete structure of the aeration basin of the wastewater treatment plant. The proposed project will remove existing concrete liner, grading and fill, install new HDPE geomembrane liner, replace aerators, and upgrade electrical components,” the meeting agenda states.

The projects will help repair damage caused by Hurricane Florence, and the city also has $395,000 in funding from the Golden Leaf Foundation to help fund construction.
