Camera Club announces top competition finalists | News, Sports, Jobs


CAMERA CLUB TOP FINISHERS — The top finalists in the Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club’s annual competition were announced Sept. 17. WINTERSVILLE — The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club held its annual competition Sept. 17 at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church in Wintersville. Judges included professional photographers Cindy Baxter, Larry Tackett and Garen DiBartolomeo. More than 260 photos divided into 16 categories were submitted to the jury.

Those who placed in the abstract area included Sharon Slokan, first place; Sue Adey, second; and Michelle Stevens, third. Top finishers in architecture-focused photos included: Adey first place; Adey, second; and Karen Felix, third. The black and white photo winners were: Barb Momyer, first; Stevens, second; and Felix, third. The best for the children’s category included, Félix, first place; Eric Patterson, second; and Stevens, third.

Close-up photo finishers included, Adey, first place; Adey, second; and Jenny Riegler, third. The flowers and plants category had the following winners: Slokan, first; Stevens, second; and John Newlin, third. In the night category, first place was awarded to Momyer; Felix finished second; and Stevens, third. The finalists in the open category were: Stevens, first; Riegler, second; and Adey, third. The top finishers in the people category were: Patterson, first; Patterson, second; and Felix, third. Among the best finalists in the pet category, Félix, first place; Stevens, second; and Diane Bannister, third.

Landscape category finishers included, Félix, first; Patterson, second; and Riegler, third. The special effects finalists were: Momyer, first; Felix, second; and Patterson, third.

In the sports category, top finishers included Stevens, first; Slokan, second; and Stevens, third.

The winners in the still life photo category were Félix, first; Adey, second; and Adey, third.

Winners of a sunrise or sunset photo included, Felix, first; Patterson, second; and Adey, third. Among the best for wildlife photos, John Hanish, first; Momyer, second; and Stevens, third. Best of show went to Hanish.

The photo club will display all of the winning photographs from the annual contest, plus several additional photos, in an exhibit beginning from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Summit Gallery, Top of West Virginia. Arts Council, located at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17 in Weirton. The exhibit will continue through October 30 during Top of West Virginia hours of operation, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
