Police make arrest in 30th homicide of year in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS — A man has been arrested in connection with a homicide that occurred in west Colorado Springs in August.

Colorado Springs police said they arrested Michael Darnell Gilliam, 35, after the department “developed probable cause” through its investigation.

Gillem was charged with first degree murder on October 1. Vidal Vigil, 24, was found dead in a vehicle along North Chestnut Street after an Aug. 26 shooting.

He was found with at least one gunshot wound. At this time, the El Paso County Coroner has not released the official cause of death.

Police say this is the 30th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. Last year at this time, there were 21 homicides.
