R. Kelly’s Daughter Refuses to Take Son to Meet Grandfather in Prison

R. Kelly’s daughter Joanne Kelly, who appears in the upcoming documentary “R Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey,” revealed she has no interest in introducing her future son to his grandfather.

“If my son asks questions, I will be as honest as possible. And I’m not taking my son to prison to meet his grandfather,” Joanne, who appears to be pregnant in the clip, said in the documentary’s trailer released Sunday.

As for her own relationship with her dad, the mom-to-be looked back on her childhood with the famous relative, 57, and admitted he “was everything to me,” but shared they weren’t close after that he was convicted in New York on racketeering and sex trafficking charges in September 2021.

“For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe this was happening. I didn’t know that even though he was a bad person, he would do something to me,” she said of the “I’m a Flirt” singer, who is serving a 30-year sentence at the Metropolitan Chicago Correctional Center.

“No one wants to be the child of a father who hurts women and children. He knows exactly why we can’t have the relationship we would like to have with Him.

“I truly feel like one millisecond completely changed my life,” Joanne continued, referring to her father’s belief.

The mother of the 26-year-old young woman, married to the singer from 1996 to 2009, also spoke in the documentary. Drea Kelly slammed the disgraced musical artist for not being a present father to their children.

“Just because you’re not a good husband doesn’t mean you can’t be a good father. And the fact that he didn’t even try,” Drea, 50, said of her ex-husband.

“What he did to me, he did to me. But you didn’t have to do that to my damn children.

In addition to his 30-year sentence, Kelly was also convicted of six counts of child sex crimes and sentenced to 20 years in prison in February 2023. Nineteen of those years will be served concurrently with his sentence in New York. Getty Images

The documentary will also feature appearances from Joanne’s siblings, including Jaah Kelly and Robert Kelly Jr.

In addition to Kelly’s 30-year prison sentence, the Grammy winner was also convicted of six counts of child sex crimes, including producing child pornography and inciting a minor to engage in sexual activity.

In February 2023, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, 19 of which will be served concurrently with his sentence in New York.

“R Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey” will premiere on the Tvei network on October 11.
