Republic of Ireland: McGuinness earns first call-up with Doherty among the absentees

Smallbone and Coleman have not played for their club since appearing for the Republic of Ireland last month.

Coleman injured his leg during the 2-0 defeat against England.

Smallbone started in both home defeats against England and Greece, but a hamstring problem has kept him out of action for Southampton since then.

Taylor, 26, has been part of previous Republic squads but the Ipswich midfielder, who made seven appearances for the Ireland Under-21s in 2019 and 2020, is yet to reach full cap .

The Irish will face Finland in Helsinki on October 10 before facing Greece in Athens three days later.

Hallgrimsson began his reign in the Republic of Ireland with two defeats last month and will look to improve significantly both in terms of performance and results in the competitions in Helsinki and Athens.
