14-year-old pleads guilty to shooting at police at Hiawatha gas station

HIAWATHA, Iowa (KCRG) – The 14-year-old charged with shooting at police officers at a gas station in Hiawatha has pleaded guilty to several charges, including attempted murder of a peace officer.

Police said Christopher McDaniel fired a gun at least twice at officers while trying to rob the Big 10 Mart, at 1225 Boyson Road, in May.

No one was hurt in the incident. McDaniel surrendered shortly after.

McDaniel’s sentence is deferred until his 18th birthday.

He will remain in juvenile custody until that point.
