Darwin Nunez posted a silent message on social media after Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Bologna. The 25-year-old, who missed the trip to Wolves on Saturday due to illness, returned to the starting XI to face the Serie A side in the Champions League.

With Diogo Jota injured, Nunez started in the front three alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz as the Reds looked to secure successive victories in Europe’s elite club competition. Alexis Mac Allister gave Slot’s side the lead in the first half before Salah added a second in the 75th minute to wrap up the three points.

Although it was a positive result for the Reds, Nunez struggled during parts of the game. The Uruguayan had a frustrating evening and was replaced just after the hour mark by Cody Gakpo. He was involved on the first goal but never felt like he was on the same page as his teammates, leading Slot to remove him.

After the full-time whistle, Nunez took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to react to the match. Uploaded without words or captions, Nunez posted three different images from the match. The first was a portrait of him in action, while the second was a team photo and the third depicted him scoring before the offside flag ruled him out.

Despite his struggles against Bologna, Slot defended Nunez after the match and instead placed the blame on the entire team for their lack of creating chances.

“I don’t just focus on the individual,” he told the Liverpool manager. “I think in the first hour we didn’t create many chances for him either because we missed the last pass a few times. If we had done better that probably would have given him chances as well. .

“His home game against Bournemouth, a great goal. Today he was also involved against a team we played who were really tough and tough on him. And his teammates didn’t always find him when they could have.

“I don’t think it’s really up to us to say ‘he only scored one for Liverpool’, because you also have to look at the playing time he got. It’s a bit early to say that “After three starts, he only scored one. For me, it’s a little too early.”
