Parkersburg Utility Board Announces More Water Line Flushing | News, Sports, Jobs

PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg Utility Board, Water Division, will flush water lines in the city and surrounding service areas beginning at 10 p.m. today.

PUB director Eric Bennett said “Water line flushing is performed to remove buildup of iron and manganese oxides in the lines and to inspect the operation of water distribution system hydrants.”

Bennett also said “Flushing water lines helps maintain the quality of water supplied to Parkersburg Water System customers. »

Some residents may experience temporary discoloration of their water during the work.

“It is likely that some brown colored water will enter the house plumbing if water is used at the same time as the area is flushed,” Bennett said.

It is recommended not to do laundry while water pipe flushing is being performed in the area. If the laundry is stained, it should not be dried. Instead, it should be rewashed with a product formulated to remove iron stains such as Iron Out or Red Out.

If you notice any discoloration in the water, turn on the cold water and let it run until the water runs clear. It is recommended that you do not use your hot water until you are sure the water is clear.

Flushing will take place from 10pm today and will continue around the clock until work is completed around 3am on Sunday.

Flushing will start on 19th Street and move north on Dudley Avenue, and

westward to the Ohio River. Simultaneously, a second team will begin flushing water on 19th Street, moving east to Dudley Avenue and south toward the Little Kanawha River.

On Saturday, around 11 a.m., rescue crews are expected to begin in the City Park area and cross the Little Kanawha River toward south Parkersburg. Work will continue south toward Pettyville.
