The Castle Street Collective hosts silent dinner and auction to raise money for projects

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Castle Street Collective hosted a silent dinner and auction on Thursday night at RX Chicken and Oysters.

Attendees silently bid on paintings that were made by artists in the Wilmington area. The nonprofit organization seeks to raise funds that will be used in projects to help beautify areas on Castle Street.

Organizers believe having better landscaping could attract more people to the district.

“It helps it look more attractive to other people from different parts of Wilmington that want to come down here. You can see that someone is caring for it and it’s a good friendly place to shop and eat and just hang out,” Board Member Scott Hawkins said.

Hawkins says they’ll see the improvements when they attend the family-oriented events they hold.

“People come down here for the events and then they walk around and they see the great shops and restaurants and the natural beauty of the area,” Hawkins said.

The organization is also looking for volunteers who would like to help with cleaning up trash, cutting weeds, and planting flowers.
