Garth Brooks sued for sexual assault by his former makeup artist

Garth Brooks has been charged with sexual assault and battery in a new trial. According to CNN, the country superstar is being sued by a “Jane Roe” who allegedly worked as a hair and makeup artist.

The suit was filed today (October 3) in California. He claims Brooks raped her during a work trip in 2019, while also accusing him of repeatedly exposing his genitals and buttocks, talking about sex, and sharing sexual fantasies with Roe , regularly changing clothes in front of Roe and sending sexually explicit text messages. .

Roe says she began doing hair and makeup services for Brooks in 2017, but was first hired to do hair and makeup for his wife, Trisha Yearwood, in 1999. During an alleged incident in 2019, Roe was at Brooks’ home for work when he came out of the shower naked, “grabbed her hands and forced them” on his genitals, and spoke to her with sexually explicit language and vulgar.

In May 2019, Brooks and Roe took his private jet to Los Angeles where he was recording a Grammy Awards tribute performance. “Usually there were others on board Brooks’ private jet, but this time Ms. Roe and Brooks were the only two passengers,” the complaint alleges. “Once in Los Angeles at the hotel, Ms. Roe could not believe that Brooks had booked a one-bedroom hotel suite and that she did not have a separate bedroom.”

Upon arriving at the hotel suite, Roe says Brooks “appeared in the doorway of the room, completely naked” and that she felt “trapped in the room alone with Brooks.” Following the alleged rape, Brooks told her of his sexual fantasies more frequently and physically groped her. Brooks “repeatedly made remarks” about “having a threesome” with his wife, according to the complaint.

In mid-September, Brooks filed an anonymous lawsuit in Mississippi to stop Roe from making the accusations public, claiming they were “false allegations” that would “irreparably harm” his reputation and career (according to CNN). He also claimed that Roe’s attorney sent him a “confidential” demand letter accusing him of sexual misconduct after he denied Roe’s request for “salaried employment and medical benefits.”

“The defendant’s allegations are not true,” his lawsuit states. “The Defendant is, however, well aware of the substantial and irreparable harm that such false allegations would cause to the Plaintiff’s well-deserved reputation as a decent and caring person, as well as the inevitable harm to his family and the irreparable harm to his career and to her livelihood this would happen if she followed through on her threat to “publicly file” her fabricated lawsuit.

Roe’s lawyers told CNN that Brooks’ “efforts to silence our client by filing a preemptive lawsuit in Mississippi were nothing more than an act of desperation and attempted intimidation.”

Attorneys Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen and Hayley Baker shared a statement with CNN:

We are confident that Brooks will be held accountable for his actions. We applaud our client’s courage in moving forward with her complaint against Garth Brooks. The complaint filed today demonstrates that sexual predators exist not only in corporate America, in Hollywood and in the rap and rock and roll industries, but also in the world of country music.

UPDATE: Brooks shared a statement with People. Read it below.

Over the past two months, I have been harassed endlessly with threats, lies, and tragic stories about what my future would be like if I didn’t write a multi-million dollar check. It felt like someone was holding a loaded gun in my face.

Secret money, no matter how small or small, is secret money. In my mind, this means I am admitting to behavior that I am incapable of – horrible acts that no human should ever do to another. We filed a complaint against this person almost a month ago to denounce the extortion and defamation. We filed it anonymously for the sake of the families on both sides.

I want to play music tonight. I want to continue our good deeds in the future. It breaks my heart that these wonderful things are being called into question now. I trust the system, I’m not afraid of the truth, and I’m not the man they portrayed me to be.
