Rockford City Council considers $15.5 million infrastructure plan

Rockford City Council considers .5 million infrastructure plan

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – At an upcoming city council meeting, aldermen will consider approving an infrastructure improvement plan.

The city of Rockford says it plans to spend an operating surplus starting in 2023 due to “better-than-expected performance on income and replacement taxes and fiscal responsibility.”

The administration, Public Works and the Ministry of Finance recommended that 48% of the funds be dedicated to infrastructure improvements.

Some improvements include:

  • Additional funds for neighborhood streets and sidewalks in each neighborhood
  • Resurfacing Alpine Road from Spring Creek to Highcrest
  • Resurfacing Mulford Road from Fincham to Guilford and Gale to Churchview
  • Resurfacing Spring Creek Road from Welsh to Mulford
  • Resurfacing Riverside Boulevard from Rockton to Latham and Central to Packard

The city says this will nearly double the amount of road work in the region in 2025 and increase funding for neighborhood roads to $500,000 per year per neighborhood. This represents an increase of $175,000 from the current average of $325,000.

Aldermen will consider approving the plan at an Oct. 7 city council meeting.
