Billing suspended for company customers after ‘cybersecurity incident’

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT/CBS) – Billing for Kentucky American Water customers has been suspended after a “cybersecurity incident.”

In a press release, American Water, the parent company of Kentucky American Water, says it has recently become aware of unauthorized activity in its networks and computer systems.

As part of this response, they have taken their MyWater customer portal service offline, meaning they are suspending billing until further notice.

We’re told their team is investigating the nature and extent of the incident. The company will post updates on its website.

The company says there will be no late fees or service outages while MyWater remains unavailable.

According to its website, American Water is the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the United States and provides drinking water and wastewater services to more than 14 million people in 14 states and on 18 military installations.
