Germany sent fighters to intercept a Russian reconnaissance plane in the latest aerial incident between a NATO member and the Moscow Air Force.

The German Air Force said it responded to the detection of an Iluyushin Il-20 in international waters between the island of Rügen and Bornholm, Denmark.

Berlin sent two Eurofighters from Rostock-Laage airfield to intercept the Russian plane over the Baltic Sea, which German media said was often used for radio reconnaissance and gathering intelligence on NATO countries.

This is a developing story.
