How to Implement Five Tricky Fall Trends in Midlife

How to Implement Five Tricky Fall Trends in Midlife

Cotton Blend Knit T-Shirt, £49, The White Company; Suede skirt, £495, EU+EM; Slingback shoes, £49.99, sleeve; Gold plated and semi-precious stone earrings, £280, Pink Piglet

Let’s just say that I’ve traditionally hated this color, ever since it was a ‘Sprite’ on my Brownie uniform. But then again, there’s Daisy Edgar Jones and she Twisted shine (as mentioned above). “Chocolate brown is the color of winter 2024,” says Eastwood definitively, explaining that it’s yet another ’90s reference: “But unlike other ’90s throwback trends, this is one that has real power to permanence, so it is worth the investment. Unlike an all-black or cream, this hero shade actually complements all skin tones while also working as a great chic neutral for styles with multiple colors and prints. For a more relaxed look, I recommend implementing a leather jacket, a ribbed knit dress or a suede bag, but for the fully committed, a long chocolate cashmere coat would really update and elevate most looks.”

I’m still not convinced that brown will do me any favors near my face, but the idea of a brown coat resonates, especially when paired with other colors, which takes me back to visions of all those beautiful, textured, brown 1960s style, suede coats on the Miu Miu AW24 catwalk (one of my favorite collections of the entire season). There are some fantastic looks on the high street (see Cos). Even better, I managed to buy a pristine 1960s original from my favorite antiques emporium in Penrith two days after filming this story for £75. It’s worth the hunt.

Interestingly, it was scrutinizing Miu Miu’s AW24 runway images again that led Sophie and I to another clue about how to style brown for this feature. I would like to direct your gaze to the final image of the show: Mrs. Prada herself, making her usual bow, wearing a navy blue sweater, brown A-line skirt, bare legs and beautiful high heels. A winning look indeed. To recreate it in the studio, Sophie found a sumptuous nutmeg suede skirt from Me + Em (it’s as glorious as it sounds). Just add a navy blue knit tee from The White Company if you want to emulate Ms. Prada’s midlife chic style. I certainly do.
