Latest from Middle East: Israel to launch ‘imminent’ attacks in Lebanon – as UN says IDF bulldozer ‘deliberately demolished’ tower position | World news

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFL) said an IDF bulldozer “deliberately demolished” an observation tower and perimeter fence of a UN position in Marwahin, Lebanon.

In a statement, the organization said: “Once again, we remind the IDF and all stakeholders of their obligations to ensure the security of UN personnel and property and to respect the inviolability of UN facilities at all times.

“Once again, we note that violating a UN position and damaging UN assets is a flagrant violation of international law and Security Council resolution 1701.

“It also endangers the safety of our peacekeepers, in violation of international humanitarian law.

“The IDF repeatedly demanded that UNIFIL vacate its positions along the Blue Line and deliberately damaged UN positions.

“Despite the pressure placed on the mission and our troop-contributing countries, peacekeepers remain in all positions.”
