Will Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal be released from jail? SC will consider granting interim bail tomorrow

Much to the relief of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Supreme Court will consider granting him interim bail in view of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief has been behind bars for over one month after the elections. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in a money laundering case linked to excise policy.

The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal during the general elections was seen as a major damage to the party which is struggling to campaign without its main leader.

The case will be heard by a bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta. Arvind Kejriwal was taken into custody by the ED on March 21. Later, he was shifted to Tihar jail under judicial custody after not receiving any relief from the apex court in his plea challenging his arrest by the ED.

The apex court will on Tuesday consider granting bail to Arvind Kejriwal after it said on May 3 that Kejriwal’s interim bail would be considered keeping in view the ongoing general elections.

The court had told the ED that arguments against Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest would take time and hence, there are chances that the SC will consider hearing the investigating agency on the issue on interim bail in view of Lok Sabha elections in Delhi. Polling will take place in Delhi on May 25.

“It seems that we cannot complete it today. We will release it on Tuesday morning itself. Mr. Raju, one more thing. If it is going to take some time and it seems to us that it may take some time, we will consider then the issue of interim bail in view of elections,” the bench had told Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, who was wrapping up his arguments for the day.

Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has recommended a probe by the National Investigation Agency of the Government of India (NIA) against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to probe his alleged political funding received from banned terrorist organization ‘Sikhs for Justice’, PTI reported citing Raj Niwas sources. Monday.

The charges were rejected by the party which called the recommendation a “conspiracy” against Kejriwal at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He called the LG an “agent” of the (BJP).
