Coastal Alabama Community College announces new vice president

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WKRG) – Coastal Alabama Community College will welcome a new vice president next month.

Dr. Lonnie Burnett has been named the college’s new vice president, according to a news release.

He is expected to join Coastal Alabama Community College on June 1.

“Dr. Burnett has demonstrated his commitment to education and to students,” said Coastal Alabama President Dr. Aaron Milner. “He brings with him more than 30 years of exclusive classroom experience and 15 years of higher education administrative experience, and I know he will be an asset to our team.”

Before being named the new vice president, Dr. Burnett served as the fifth president of the University of Mobile since 2019.

Dr. Burnett’s past experience includes teaching in the Mobile County public school system for 25 years, winning Teacher of the Year at the local school level five times, serving as a teacher of history, department chair, vice provost, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and more.

“I know Dr. Burnett will be a welcome addition to our team at Coastal Alabama,” Dr. Milner said. “He has experience in a variety of areas that align with our strategic direction as we continue to advance Coastal Alabama Community College for the success of our students.”
