Omega Global Boards Brendan Foley Crime Drama ‘Fairytale Detective’

British distributor Omega Global Media has boarded Brendan Foley’s Hans Christian Andersen-inspired crime drama “Fairytale Detective.”

Each hour-long episode follows Andersen as he solves crimes in Copenhagen in the 1850s, aided by a circle of characters from his stories, who come to life to help him find justice. By embarking on his unusual hobby, he hopes to convince Jenny Lind, the love of his life, to marry him.

Andersen was a prolific writer and creative storyteller who created “The Little Mermaid” and “The Ugly Duckling,” among other well-known tales.

Omega Global Media managing director Danny Goldman will present creative material for the eight-episode series at Mipcom next week as part of the co-production and pre-sale financing strategy.

Foley, who created and writes “Fairytale Detective,” recently delivered “Sherlock & Daughter” (CW/WBD), which is currently in production and stars “Harry Potter’s” David Thewlis, as well as the second season of Elisa Viihde’s hit “The Man Who Died”. ” starring Jussi Vattanen (“Fallen Leaves”).

The company’s Mipcom slate also includes Canadian drama “Something Undone,” as well as two more English-language scripted series that will be revealed later in the year.

“The most memorable heroes in fiction and on screen, from Sherlock Holmes to Walter White, are the flawed characters who defy audience expectations and loyalty,” Goldman said. “In ‘Fairytale Detective,’ Brendan Foley brings us another compelling lead character, Hans Christian Andersen, reimagining this complex character in a crime drama that blends intrigue, humor and romance with the fantastic elements drawn from Andersen’s pen.”

Mipcom takes place in Cannes from October 21st to 24th.
