State trooper injured during traffic stop in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — A state trooper is injured after he and his patrol car were struck while conducting a traffic stop Friday evening on I-84 in Middlebury.

At approximately 11:18 p.m., a State Police trooper stopped a 2006 Hyundai Sonata one mile west of Exit 17 on I-84. Although the police car’s emergency lights were flashing to warn approaching drivers, a 2009 Toyota RAV 4 crashed into the side of the car and then continued to collide with the rear of the Hyundai.

The Toyota finally stopped after rolling onto its roof. All three people involved were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

According to investigators, the driver of the Toyota failed to stay in the correct lane and was found to be at fault for the accident.

Enforcement action is pending as State Police continue to investigate this accident.
