Brittany Cartwright shares an update on where she stands with ex Jax Taylor amid their split.

On the May 24 episode of She When reality hits with Jax and Brittany podcast, the Valley The star, 35, told guest Tom Schwartz that she and Taylor, 44, are “not great” right now.

Cartwright told PEOPLE during the premiere of their Bravo show: The valleythe following month, that she “really needed to take a step back” from the relationship.

“Once a woman reaches her breaking point, it’s like, ‘It’s done.’ Something happened in my head and I was like, ‘I need to get away from this situation. It’s not a good situation,” she said.

She also noted that the couple’s three-year-old son Cruz is the “most important thing” to both of them as they navigate their time apart.

“I feel a little relief,” Cartwright admitted. “I needed that space.”

Taylor also noted that the separation was “better for (their) family” as he and Cartwright have “been going through some things for a while now.”

Despite the challenges in their relationship, Cartwright told PEOPLE in April that co-parenting is going well so far for the couple.

“I honestly think it’s better because we’re not fighting in front of him,” she explained. “And for me, I think that’s what’s most important right now. Because that’s why I had to get him out of this situation in the first place.”
