Chargers QB Justin Herbert explains how the team is addressed before practice

Los Angeles Chargers Quarterback Justin Herbert addressed his team before practice this week as preparation began for the Week 8 game against the New Orleans Saints.

According to the star quarterback himself, it wasn’t entirely unusual. Herbert said he usually does it, or star defenseman Derwin James takes on the duties before things get going.

“We were talking about practice pace,” Herbert said. “It was just making sure everyone was following the right guidelines. Gliding, walking, finding the right depth on all our routes.

After the Week 7 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, in which Hebert’s offense had to settle for five field goals, it was understandable if spectators thought the matchup could have been a little more dramatic.

But the need to talk about tempo management makes sense during practice in a short week after a Monday night game. More specifically, the need to talk about routes and the like is quite important given a mind-blowing situation seven of Herbert’s guns are woundedmeaning some names deeper on the depth chart could get serious playing time against the Saints.

Be that as it may, the Chargers aren’t yet in the “crisis player-only meetings” stage — and don’t plan on getting anywhere near that.
